Hello fellow Mastodon #urbanists the statewide #land-use and #transportation advocacy group 1000 Friends of Wisconsin is hiring a new Executive Director. Come lead a group changing how the whole state lives and moves through policy and education. #housing #zoning #urbanism #transit #policy

(declaration of interests: I am on the board, but not the hiring committee)

I could be more tolerant of abled urbanists/cycle advocates making sweeping statements about what drivers should be allowed or what infrastructure design is "better" if I ever saw them address accessibility for disabled drivers & disabled cyclists as a regular part of their practice, informed by actual co-leadership with disabled people. So far, at least for the social media, videos, talks & articles that cross my path, I don't see that. #Accessibility #Urbanists #BikeTooter

Quick tip for anyone who wants more urbanism/urban planning/cycling/public transport posts in their Mastodon feed.

Thanks to the wonders of the Fediverse, you can follow and post to Lemmy groups from Mastodon.

Here are some transport/planning/cycling groups to get you started:

@urbanism

@fuck_cars

@trains@lemmy.ml

@ukpublictransport

@trains@midwest.social

@melbournetrains

@sydneytrains

@brisbanetrains

@bicycling@lemmy.ml

@bicycling@lemmy.world

@utilitycycling

For those unfamiliar with it, Lemmy is basically a federated version of Reddit, distributed across multiple servers like Mastodon. (For anyone who wants to delve further, lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, and aussie.zone are three popular Lemmy instances.)

From Mastodon, you can follow any Lemmy group by following its handle, exactly the same way that you would follow a Mastodon account. Any new posts to that group will then begin appearing in your Mastodon feed.

Even better, if you start a thread on Mastodon, you can also post it to a relevant Lemmy group just by including its handle in your post. (Please note this only seems to work with the first post of a thread.)

Another of my information streams on the subject of lithium is the #VisionZero #urbanists I follow here on Mastodon, who note that one of the many benefits of compact urban design, public transit, and a cultural focus on smaller lighter vehicles would be a dramatically smaller societal demand for lithium compared to a continued focus on individual ownership of midsized to large automobiles.
