We are committed to surfacing content from the Small Web in our search results, which makes Kagi uniquely different to any other search engine out there.

It is not only part of our mission to humanize the web but we genuinely feel that this improves the quality of search results and discoverability of high quality, relevant content (created by humans!)

Fun with #Google #Search:

The term:
Can bezocaine make you high
or just:
benzocaine high
yields search results headed:
"An AI Overview is not available for this search".

Searching:
are ducks blue
yields search results headed by an AI Overview. While searching:
are ducks blue -"benzocaine high"
yields search results with no AI Overview.

At least, that's been my experience this afternoon.

So Mojeek is the only non-metasearch search engine currently in Europe, and is also maybe the worst search engine I have tried in many years. So leaving Kagi, who is both US based and using Russian Yandex - there are only meta-search engines using US search under the hood? Duckduckgo is US based. Qwant is not impressive and quite slow, Ecosia seemed promising, although both are still Bing, and will still be partially after joining forces on a new index. Startpage is Google, and owned by an ad company, claiming to enforce privacy, but works nicely (because its basically straight up Google) - so basically there is no real alternative? What do you use?

After some reading and thoughts, I have refreshed my ~15 years old browser + search engine setup. And the winners are @Vivaldi and Ecosia (and a note on @Qwant).

As a Netscape/Mozilla user, I can't remember when I became a Firefox user but really early on. All this time it has been my browser for everything (first) and then for personal use (see below). I have collected stickers, I have met Mozilla Foundation staff, and I even applied a long time ago. +
