This unbearable situation doesn’t just affect Palestinians, it affects all of us, and we’re determined to change it.---------------------- Violent crime is spreading, but mainstream media barely reports onit, and government officials and police don't deal with it. For Palestinian citizens of Israel, this situation has made many people scared to bring their children to school or play on the street for fear of being gunned down. Each day we wonder who's next in line. It's an unbearable reality. -------------------------------------Last year, 239 Arab-Palestinian citizens were murdered as a result of organized crime in Arab towns and cities. According to Haaretz, 39 people have been murdered this year.-----------------------------------For our leaders, violent crime in the Arab community is not even on the agenda. Israel's Knesset speaker reportedly rejected prioritizing a discussion on the subject. The police commissioner chose a trip abroad over managing the bloody situation at home.Itamar Ben-Gvir, who previously oversaw the police force, all but encouraged criminals to kill. ---------------------------------------This is a deliberate, discriminatory policy, but it didn’t start with Ben-Gvir.Violence took root over many years in which the safety of the country’s non-Jewish citizens was ignored. Over decades, criminals have become bolder because of the police’s refusal to prosecute them.
