Nice!

David Croyle
A copy of the 100th Anniversary edition of the ARRL Handbook in hardcover just arrived. It's an absolute monster at 1280 pages, which makes it two inches thick! David Croyle
Hey, does the Mastodon Ham Radio braintrust have a recommendation for a good introductory guide for operating on FT8? I have a radio and laptop set up for it for the first time, and now need to understand how to use FT8 and operate. I know just a basic overview about how it all works, but have zero experiencing getting on the air with it.

Any suggestions on a good guide would be most welcome. Preferably in old-fashioned text and images and not YouTube, because YouTubers. 😁

#hamradio #ft8

David Croyle
I just had my first SSB POTA contact on my FT-891, running off of battery, at 100W while connected to my backyard EFHW. 59 both ways with MI.

The DNR on this radio really helps but it sounds pretty chunky compared to my 101! I also should consider a headset for this thing that would work for mobile/portable ops.

#hamradio

David Croyle
Woohoo! I've just picked up my first data from that funny FT8 thing... I still need to correctly configure the radio CAT control settings to hopefully stop the dumb error. Ethan J. A. Schoonover
Folks, unlike internet comms radios can't just be disconnected by a service provider. It's just you, another radio, and physics.

Now is a good time to get a #hamradio license in the US. The FCC could take away our spectrum rights but regardless you would still have radio gear and know-how.
