In order to celebrate an achievement of 2018, I am very proud to share with you the first time a techdudebro mansplained me the conference I'd just given.
This is just a very brief moment extracted from the 270 seconds of his first rant. He ranted some more after my answer and came back later on when I was off stage and argued with me without listening fo more than 20mn. Extremely educational.
(This GIF should become my profile pic, right?)
@mcpaccard super awkward vibe in the room while he's talking… At least people realised on the spot that it was weird. 😐
@loriskumo no one said much though, apart from the woman who defended me. Most of the dudedevbros in the room were unfortunately quite ok with his speech, even if just on the philosophical level, not the way he expressed it.
He comes from Nantes which he found "had a big airport problem" lol (i.e. vanity airport was cancelled after decades of public outrage over destruction of arable land and misuse of public funds).
That he bemoaned the "loss" of NDDL (airport) says a lot about his character.
To be frank he came across as scared shitless fathoming the possibility of collapse.
@mcpaccard i'm having a frustrating day so yes okay let's really put that over the top
@mcpaccard lmao got to :30 where the nerd started talkin about his feelings
@mcpaccard just realized this was your talk, and it's good as heck
@mcpaccard like literally thinking of any of the material underpinnings of anything reveal the endless innovation and growth ideology depends on "we expect a wizard will show up at some point"
@vegetablegremlin YUP. There's some good research about this issue being published right now, unfortunately I can only point out to French content. It points out to our amazing ability to discard our responsibilities, to the philosophical shifts we used to create the concept of "nature" and separate ourselves from it, the mythologies and the social constructs...We are flawed when it comes to understanding and applying ecology.
@vegetablegremlin hahaha, thanks! Yes it is :) first version of it, though. In hindsight, I find it messy and ill-balanced. I am working on new versions (one is available but in French only, sorry!) that are better and more aimed at what we can do as individuals.
I was thinking he was French, I was not mistaken. x)
The way he always interrupt you is really infuriating (nothing new but, yeah...)
I am a male IT guy, and i cannot understand what that we would have against it to have more women in our field. I would love to work together! There are far to little women in tech. And i consider everyone worth learning from. Even kids. the meaning of mansplaining is totally lost to me
